Prefabricated Carports

Prefabricated carports and structures are designed to house and protect automobiles or other equipment or property on a scale similar to a garage yet are larger than a common storage shed. These are structures in which their components are built before hand and customers have the option of assembling them on their property or having someone perform the assembly for them.

Prefabricated carport kits are considered simple to assemble and install and, because they are prefabricated, they are not strictly speaking bound to remain on one part of property should new conditions or customer desire call for a change. Some prefabricated carport kits now feature bolt- or fastener-type assembly requiring little to no welding or heavy bracing.

Homeowners are not the only ones who find prefabricated carports appealing. Many public works officials seeking protective cover for on-site vehicles and equipment find them feasible for their easy construction, durability, and portability when disassembled. Prefabricated carport kits are available very readily, and they are not necessarily budget-breaking expenses—metal prefabricated carport kits can be had, in fact, for as little as $900.

Metal kits are built by assembling and anchoring base rails on the desired location, then assembling as many as six or even eight trusses depending on the size and length of the carport in question before attaching the trusses to the base rails. After the trusses are set, aluminum or sheet metal cover panels are attached to the framework. In addition, of course, carports are regarded highly for keeping most weather away from vehicles and equipment.

If they feature peak-shaped roofing, they lend added functionality for rain and snow runoff, and their metal materials are highly pest and fire resistant. The most popular prefabricated carports remain the flat-top kits that are the least expensive and least complicated to assemble and mount, but in regions where rain and snow are prevalent, they are not considered ideal options. The mansard style—a single-direction sloped roof—offers the same runoff protection as the peak-roof carport but is considered a less expensive option.

For mobile homeowners, or fixed homeowners with enough property space to work with, if they have turned their existing garages into home offices or workshops, prefabricated carports are appealing for protecting their vehicles or, if they own them, their motor homes. However, homeowners who use their garages for their vehicles still like such carports for things like covered recreation or storage augmentation. For recreation, soft-top carports provide an ideal cover, something that makes them appealing to public works officials as well.
